Support
Lightning Tracker is built by one person. Email goes straight to me and I answer it myself, usually within a couple of days.
Email founder+support@raintotal.appReporting a bug? Tell me your iPhone model, your iOS version, and roughly where and when it happened. It makes the difference between a guess and a fix.
I'm not getting lightning alerts
- Check that notifications are allowed: iOS Settings → Lightning Tracker → Notifications.
- Check location access. Alerts for wherever you are need location permission; if it is set to Never, only the places you have pinned manually will be watched.
- Check your alert radius. A strike has to land inside it to trigger a notification, so widen it if you want more warning.
- Confirm there is lightning to alert on. Quiet skies within your radius means no notification, which is the system working correctly.
The map is empty
- An empty map usually means there is genuinely no lightning in view. Most of the map is quiet most of the time, so zoom out to a region with active storms to confirm the feed is live.
- If the whole hemisphere looks empty for more than a few minutes, the upstream NOAA feed may be interrupted. These outages are on NOAA's side and resolve on their own; email us if it persists.
Does it cover my area?
- Lightning Tracker uses the GOES-East satellite, which covers the continental United States, southern Canada, Mexico, Central America, the Caribbean and most of South America.
- Far-northern Canada and most of Alaska fall outside the sensor's usable range, and the satellite does not see Europe, Africa, Asia or Australia.
Managing or canceling a subscription
- Subscriptions are billed by Apple, not by us. Open iOS Settings → tap your name → Subscriptions → Lightning Tracker to change or cancel.
- Canceling stops the next renewal; Pro features stay available until the end of the period you already paid for.
- Reinstalled the app or changed device? Use Restore Purchases on the Pro screen to bring your subscription back.
Deleting your data
- There are no accounts, so there is nothing to log into and delete. Removing a watch location in the Alerts tab deletes it from our servers.
- Deleting the app stops its push token from working, and the token and its watch settings are removed automatically.
- Want it done sooner? Email us and we will remove your device's records by hand.
